    • Charles Richardson

      Chuck Richardson was a star lefthander pitcher for the 1961 Lanier High School Poets leading them to the AAA state tournament where they finished as runner-ups to Benedictine of Savannah. He finished the season with a perfect 8 and 0 record which included a pair of winds in the State playoffs. In going 6 and 0 during the regular season he pitched 43 innings, allowingjust 7 runs on 21 hits, with 60 strikeouts and 20 walks. During that season he had 1-8 hitter, 1-6 hitter, 2-3hitters, 1 one hitter and 1 no hitter. In state playoffs he beat Griffin 3-2 and Murphy 5-3. During his high school career he posted a 17-1 record and helped Lanier to two State championship finals. Won Lem Clark Memorial Trophy as Lanier's Outstanding baseball player his senior season. First baseball player to earn a scholarship to Vanderbilt University, where he was a three year letter winner. Went 8-0 as a freshman. At Vanderbilt, started both games of a doubleheader against Tennessee (both losses) and went 9 innings against Georgia Tech in a 9-8 win. Walked 14 players in that game. Had two 500 seasons for the Commodores with his best year being at 7-4. Graduated from the Medical College of Georgia. He is an orthopedic surgeon who worked with local public and private school athletic programs for more than 25 years. Also served as Head team Physician for minor league baseball teams in Macon, including the Pirates, Peaches, Cardinals. He was the head team doctor for the Braves during their entire time in Macon. Also serves as one of team physicians for Mercer University Athletic Program. (more)
