|Tom Fontaine(2005)As a charter member and president of the Kiwanis Club, he helped bring little league baseball to Macon in 1952. Hde received a meritorious service award for counseling, assisting and guiding the Macon Little League into various communities throughout District 5 in 1960. The Macon Little League field is named in his honor.|
Rodney Collins has spent his entire life around football. Growing up in Hawkinsville he was a four year letterwinner in the sport as well as in baseball, basketball and track for the Red Devils. Playing quarterback for the legendary Bobby Gentry he was a two time all state performer and State Class B Back of the Year in 1965. After high school he went on to Austin Peay State University where he was a quarterback and punter.
Coach Collins began his coaching career at Northside in Warner Robins and then had stops at Baker Academy in Hawkiinsville, Briarwood Academy in Thomson, Southland in Americus and John Milledge in Milledgeville and Riverside Military in Gainesville. But his greatest success came at Stratford Academy where he coached from 1988-2002 and from 2007 through 2012. His two stints at Stratford were separated by five years when he coached at Riverside Military. While at Stratford he won State titles in 1993, 1999 and 2000. He captured Region Crowns in '93, '94, '99, 2000 and '0l. His success earned him Coach of the Year Awards in '93, 99 and 2000 and Region Coach of the Year honors in '93, '94, '99, '00 and 200l. He received the GISA Coaches Association Distinguished Service Award in 1999, 2000 and 2012. He had an overall record of 247-160 and 5 with a 158-95 and 2 mark in 21 seasons at Stratford.(more)
