Bobby Bryant, inducted 2001
|Bobby Bryant (2001) Three Sports star at Willingham High School before going on to play baseball and football at South Carolina where he was ACC Athlete of the Year in 1966 and 1967. Played defensive back in the NFL for the Minnesota Vikings for 13 seasons. He is a member of the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.|
Joe Dupree holds the distinction of being the only football player to start a game at quarterback at both the University of Georgia and at Georgia Southern. Following a banner All State high school career at Southwest High School where he passed for more than 33 hundred yards and 23 touchdowns and rushed for 1,809 yards and 22 touchdowns in three season, he signed a football scholarship with Georgia where he spent wo season before transferring to Southern. He played in five games with the Bulldogs. At Southern Joe was a three year letter winner for the Eagles helping lead them to a Southern Conference Championship and an NCAA Division I AA playoff berth.
His statistics at Southern show 951 yards rushing and 11 touuchdowns and 914 yards passing and 7 touchdowns.
Joe got into the coaching ranks in 2000 starting at Twiggs County High School as an assistant. He also worked as an assistant in football and head boys basketball coach at Rutland from 2003 until 2005 and at Westside High School from 2005 until 2012. He got his first head coach job at Henry County in McDonough in 2012 and after one season there returned to Macon at Southwest High School where he serves at Head Football Coach and Athletics Director.(more)
