William Fickling, Jr., inducted 2010
|Bill Fickling was a three-sport star at Lanier High School in the late 1940's. He was a member of the 1949 State Champion football team where he played with fellow inductee Joe Davis. He was a key cog in the 1950 State Champion basketball team at Lanier. His strong play in the tournament earned him a spot on the State All-Star team and he was the leading scorer in the North-South game. In Track, he earned state championship honors in the high hurdles in 1948 & 49 before an injury cut short his senior season. He helped the track team win a state title in 1948. He was offered basketball scholarships at both Georgia and Auburn and chose to play on the Plains. He started for three straight seasons on the Tiger basketball team and was named by Coach Joel Eaves to the Auburn Team of the Decade for 1950-60. On the track, he set a freshman SEC record in the high hurdles and was SEC champion in the high hurdles in 1952 & 1954. He founded Charter Medical Corporation in 1969.|
